German Thrash/Progressive metal band Kryptoportikus presents their ambitious 2025 release, Dark Rainbow, an album that intertwines mythological narratives with intricate musical compositions.

The album opens with “Stormy Seas,” setting the tone with its vibrant riffs, immediately drawing listeners into the band’s epic storytelling. This would be something that you would hear throughout the whole tracklist you realise right away when”Imperial Machine” follows. The “Argonautica” series is divided into three parts and forms the album’s centerpiece. These tracks delve into the myth of Jason and the Argonauts, each segment building upon the last concluded in “Pt. III” with a grand, orchestral finale. They are not placed in a row, so the story is intertwined with other tracks.

For example, “The Oracle” which is a serene acoustic piece that contrasts with the album’s heavier segments, leading seamlessly into “Sparta and Athens,” which combines aggressive riffs with melodic hooks, reflecting the tension between these two ancient city-states.​

The tales of history are providing a great source of inspiration for Kryptoportikus and those who are interested can have a great time listening to them being told by the band. For those with a more instrumental focus there is also plenty to hear. The band does not take the easy route to bring their sound and let the listener invest some time in capturing all the details within their sound.
