The French rock quartet Overdrivers founded in 2015. This March the band released the third album Glory or Nothing.
I’d like to be unbiased, but huge legacy of AC/DC, Nirvana and Metallica has left no choice. Like a metronome, Overdrivers pushed so well-known rhythm and hoped for the best. Well, through 12 track, no thunder or lighting detected. Although, there are few examples of triplet “sex & drugs & rock’n’roll”.
Opener “King of the road” is disproportional mix of short circuits that possible to shake the dust from the genre’s time being. Step away from AC/DC analogies and dive deep to filthy 80’s hard rock with two tracks “My girlfriend is a pornstar” and “Bad breath girl”. Additionally, garage rawness “Meet the monsters” and creeping riffs “Cobra kai” are partly belong to mentioned in previous paragraph bands. Bunch of borrowings, but it’s still boring. On contrary, the original “We are one” is solid technically and emotionally. This kind of material harmonized the both voice and equipment. Pity, that’s only track to memorize.
Don’t want be sassy, but Glory or Nothing is secondary and ordinary. There are everlasting themes, wide choruses, itching guitar solos, AC/DC rhythm. But pictured in general, something is missing. Maybe next time, Overdrivers.
