It was a bit a mystery to many, who would Leaves’ Eyes bring along today. Apperantly the tourposter was not clear to many and the venue did not have the full info either. But, still a good bunch of people made it on time for the first band.

Verderbnis

This first band was called Verderbnis, German and to be found in the Melodic Black side. The guys have released their debut album “Paria” about 1m5 years ago and now made their way on the road with Leaves Eyes. An interesting combi, but certainly nice to see some variation on the bill.
Their show was short and maybe a bit generic. The guys have a good idea of what they want to bring, but it does not seem to bring their unique character across very well here tonight. Give it some years we would say.

Project Renegade

Project Renegade comes on stage full energy and never stopped being energetic. The formation is from Greece and they are currently working on a new album, so it is nice they took some time to go out an play some shows to grow their fanbase. The melodic sound often flirts with industrial metal and it is simply not to get at least a little bit along with their energy. A cheerful and powerful set of these is certainly warming up the audience!

Ater

It is quite a switch from the energetic Project Renegade to the Black Metal of Ater, which is a band that lays down a powerful and rich Black Metal sound onto their audience, one that you feel and experience on such a different way that the predecessors. The band originates from Chile and their album “Somber” released about a year ago. Unfortunately the guys had their set cut short after maybe 20 minutes so we could not see the whole thing, but hopefully they will cross our path again for we were impressed with their sound.

Nytt Land

The Russian Nytt Land was playing right before Leaves’ Eyes. They “say to be “Inspired by the traditional music of the indigenous peoples of Siberia” which means you’ll be up for a Folk sound that is quite popular at the moment. Think Heilung, but perhaps a bit more minimalistic, for the trio is taking it to an intimate setting. With a variety of instruments and sounds they seem to hypnotize their audience, who’s swaying along to the beats produced. Throatsinging is an art on its own and to see them going on with that though their whole set was impressing. It does sometimes make one wonder if all vocals are live, as it is not as obvious to see if what you hear is timed. One must watch with care and the costume does not help with that. We watched from closeby and you get to be even more impressed with the sound they produce. The band seem dedicated with what they are doing and made a good impression here tonight.

Leaves’ Eyes

Now Leaves’ Eyes has quite some years on the counter and the Vikings are back in the country where they have done many shows before. The last couple of years the band some line up changes and thus some people may see some new faces here today. At the same date of the show, the news got out the band signed at Reigning Phoenix Music and that a new EP is on its way. So the fans got a bit of an idea what is ahead of them.

The set of the band was quite diverse and the fans seem to be up for the most energetic songs, while the band is joking a bit here and there. Their new singles were obviously coming along, but a Leaves Eyes show is not just the music, it is the experience. A sword comes out and is waved all over the audience, some Finnish Vodka shots were shared with the audience and it seems that the band is having a great time.

Sometimes the whole is a bit chaotic, for the band has a lot of people and decor on the stage, but somehow they make it their own. The audience seem to be quite happy to cheer for them and all though the night was not sold out, it certainly may be mentioned as a successful one.
