Hanging Garden is a Finnish band making Melodic Doom. The band has been around for many years and they have quite some releases on their name. After an album last year, they now return with an EP called “Neither Moth Nor Rust”. It is available now.
It is interesting that the band starts with the title track as it starts quite abrupt. A track that I would have expected later in the release, especially since some of the other tracks are giving more intro. But it is a good track in many ways. Power, drama, good melodies. The band is bringing it all with passion.
In “And Leave All Love Behind” you hear some nice piano to start with. A slow and progressing song that has a bit of a dreamy touch to it. It has a nice place here in the middle of the EP and it is followed by a slow instrumental track. On The Shore of Eternity has a much heavier feel to it, but also hear you hear a lot different elements here. That makes sense, the band has quite some members after all. But all has its own place, they have taken care to keep a good balance in it.
Altogether Hanging Garden is presenting us a fine EP while leaving us wonder if it is the afterparty to last years full length or a warm up for what is ahead. Probably a bit of both and that is fine, a pleasant release!
