04-01-2008 Naked

Support: Mind of Doll;  Venue: Nosturi Helsinki (Finland)
By: Sabine van Gameren

Tonight I was going to Nosturi, Helsinki to see Naked. I already knew that this band has a lot of young fans, but they brought Mind of Doll with them and they have a different audience. This made me feel like I was not the granny of the evening.

Nosturi is quite a nice venue. The roof can be opened, and there is a heartagram hanging on the roof.

Mind of Doll, a band which was born in the year 2000, makes raw rock with a wink to glam. In 2007 they released their debut album “Low Life Heroes”.

While the band is quite static onstage, you have to focus on the music. I mean, really focus on the music. I found out that I can enjoy the music of Mind of Doll mostly when sitting somewhere in a corner with my eyes closed.

Though,  that is not really the idea of going to a concert. But if you want to hear and feel the emotion the music brings, it is definitely the best way. With some of the songs they played I got the melancholic feeling, I also get when listening to the slow songs of The Rolling Stones. A song like “Sick Girl, Sad Case” brought my thoughts far away from this world. Mind of Doll impressed me withtheir music, the show was less  interesting, but for this time, I don’t care. I really enjoyed listening the music.

Then the band which I was actually coming for: Naked. This band always seems to entertain me a lot. Four guys enjoying themselves all the time when they are onstage. Punky rock with an attitude. Today, it was clear that the biggest fans were there again.A show with Naked is not a one side conversation, it is communication. The whole band talks with the audience during the show and the interaction is an important element of their show.
Right before the third song, one of the band members asks the audience who of them has ever been in jail. A quick look behind me was enough to see that no one was.
Only our craziest Tempelores crew member Nina raised her hand, meaning, as a visitor. After that, the band played the song “Break Free”.The active show went on and I think that singer Muff wanted to know what Nina
was doing in jail, since later on he slides off the stage and almost jumps on Nina. Luckily both survived and nobody got hurt. When the band sings one of the most popular songs “Hallelujah”, The Muff gets close with his fans again and tries to make them sing along while sharing his microphone with them. After that the last song was already coming
up and a confetti canon shoots loads of confetti all over the stage. Of course, the audience did not agree on letting the band get away too easily and so we got two more songs.

Once again an entertaining show from Naked. I just hope that my colleague will
be safe next time.
