Club Liberte, situated in Helsinki, brought us some local heroes tonight. Mainline   and Hellcity 13 were about to play in the small club.

Mainline started and it was clear that they brought their own audience to the club. The band exists of a drummer, a bassist and a vocalist/guitarist. They started in 2002 with bringing their first release “Mainline” to the world in 2003. Right now the band is working on their second release.

Their raw edged rock seems to do well in Club Liberte. Unfortunately, the band had to start playing in complete darkness. It took a while before someone came to the brilliant idea to give the guys some stage lights. When there finally   was some light, we could see the performance better. Especially the bassist called Uncle Sam seems to enjoy his moments of fame. When the band left the stage after playing their set, some people were hysterically screaming for more. A typical boy band feeling! The band did quite well, so I didn’t mind. Of course we got an extra song from them. And after that, they could leave the
stage safely.

In my review of the debut album of Hellcity 13 , I was wondering how this band would do live. I did not realise that this opportunity to see them came this quickly.

While seeing the stage of Club Liberte I started wondering how seven musicians would fit there. It all worked out in the end, but during the performance the band had to deal with several technical issues. In the start, it was hard to hear the vocals for example. Later on it went better. Singer Mika stepped off the stage several times to walk through the audience while singing his lyrics. That left more space on stage for the rest of the band to dance and play. The band brought the good feelings I had with the album, in reality here. The typical atmosphere which rules the album is also in Club Liberte and most people seem to enjoy the gig.

At this point, I can only hope to see the band playing a bigger stage where they have some more space to move, although the interaction  with the audience worked out in Club Liberte as well.Keep your eyes on our website! In the upcoming week we will upload feature an interview with Hellcity 13!
