Ethereal Collapse – Categories

Releasedate: 2008
By: Sabine van Gameren

What would be the perfect introduction for your MySpace if you are called Ethereal Collapse, come from the USA and make melodic death metal. You tell people that all your songs are “about dead hookers”. Their EP “Categories” dates from 208 but is one we would not want to hold back from you.

“Categories” is divided in to three songs. “Slave to the Empirical” is the first one. It sets the point straight away. Swedish influenced metal is what to expect from these Americans. Riffs, that seem to be born in Gothenburg. Very smartly placed within the music, but perhaps sometimes too much in overhand, vocals are important for the aggression here. Ryan Klubeck is the name of the responsible artist.
For live experience you can tell in a split second that the second one “Discovering The Absolute” is one to mention. A certain recognizable refrain, sing-a-long, party-a-long, it is there. The last one “Architect” is one that would warm up the audience for sure and is the most aggressive one on this EP.

Overall, the band brings good tunes to the world with their EP. Would work well in Europe just as much as the USA could fall in love with it.

Tracklist:
