Pinni & Miss Ellie
By: Sabine van Gameren
Psychostars, a female fronted punk rock band from Finland. While I just watched
their gig, I just had to think of Beki Bondage from
the in UK legendary band Vice Squad while seeing miss Ellie on-stage. Want to
know more? Psychostars spoke to Tempelores about their selves.
– Tell us, who are Psychostars?
Pinni: “We make some sort of melodic punk rock. That is the vocalist Miss
Ellie. I am the bass player, we have T. and Jimi on guitars and Seppo play drums.”
– How did the band started?
Miss Ellie: “These guys are playing for years when I came along. I started
to sing in 2003”
Pinni: “Since 2 years we take this much more seriously, with doing recordings
and gigs.”
– How did you developed during the years?
Pinni: “I think we learnt to write better songs. We got more used to the
stage. The main thing is that we do gigs where we move a lot. Always jumping
and rocking all over the stage. Maybe we don’t play that good, but people will
remember that we are a happy band that moves on the stage.”
– When we want to know more about your personality we would like to know: If you were an animal, which one? And why do you think it fits your personality?
Miss Ellie: “I start! I am a cat! Happy with a little scratching.”
Pinni: “A lion. It sleeps and eats and does not do anything else then that.”
– What do you want to tell your listeners by your songs?
Pinni: “It is about old 50’s movies and that kind of stuff. It should not
make people scared, it should make people happy.”
– You have quite various lyrics, what are the main themes when writing songs?
Pinni: “I always try to find something funny; you should not take them
seriously. I have been watching loads of horror movies and they make me laugh.
I like to tell those things to people.”
– What do lyrics mean for you? You have to sing them.
Miss Ellie: “I just try to pick up the story Pinni has written and try
to bring it to the people.”
– Can we expect a new Psychostars release soon?
Pinni: “We are doing a single. We scheduled the release around Halloween.
It is really good! I hope so…”
Miss Ellie: “Then we have to wait until we gathered some money.”
– How do you describe a typical Psychostars fan, what sort of audience do you have?
Miss Ellie: “Do we have fans?! *laughs*”
Pinni: “Drunken males mostly.”
– Who are your biggest influences in music?
Pinni: “ah easy… Misfits! AC DC, sex pistols…but if I had to
say one… it would be Ramones, because they showed people that everyone can
play. You don’t have to be the best player in the world to get understand. You
can do it.”
– Do you remember your first gig?
Pinni: “I can’t remember much of my first gig. I was so scared I shit in
my pants.”
– What has changed in the way you perform during the time?
Miss Ellie: “I lost a few pounds.”
Pinni: “They got sweatier.”
– Have you ever participated in band contests?
Pinni:” Once. It was years ago and a terrible day. I don’t think of music
as a competition thing.”
– Quote “world wide wasteland”: “I can tell your future”.
Where do you see Psychostars in the future?
Pinni: “I hope we can do much more gigs and maybe go somewhere in Europe.
And make some very good songs that people put some smiles on when listening
them. Do the music that we like… and maybe somebody else.”
