RobinCosmos is a Finnish band formed back in 2003. They play some rock music
with a jazzy groove. You can hear some jazzy piano tunes appearing, melody leading
guitars and the voice of singer Mikko Laitinen takes you with him.
RobinCosmos put some great effort in their songs. The lyrics are written not
only by the singer Mikko but also by Antti Räsänen and Pekka Tolkki
(Carelia). The basis for the songs are their own personal situations and experiences.
The fundamentals come from the music experience of each band member.
Kire Karppanen plays also in “Mason”, Tarmo Simonen in “Overhead” and Jari
Karosto in “StarhagS”. This resulting in the stable tunes, as for
all of them RobinCosmos is the most important band.
In 2005 the band singed a record contract and at that point they had 2 independent
singles out. In the beginning of 2006 they released their debut album “Pathfinder”.
In December 2006 they released the single “whereabouts unknown” from
this album and this song is really one of those that stick to your mind, very
catchy piano tunes in this song.
I have to say that I think not every rock fan would like this band, they do
have some jazz influences in piano, drums and also the voice of Mikko sounds
more jazz then rock to me. Together this makes a nice mix with a rock-edge.
The album starts with “Get it” and a nice guitar solo. Piano follows
and you immediately get an idea about the CD.
Then the album takes you till the end, nice tunes. The song “Monday Mood”
is one of my favourites to sing along: “Monday came, I won’t survive this
day. Weekend came and went, hangover never ends. Twisting under depression”.
A typical Monday feeling, although I expected the song to be a bit more melancholic
it is quite energetic.
If you are curious about this band and how they would play live, then you have
to check their myspace and website. You get a good impression.
My opinion is this is a great band for those moments that you do not need to
get energy, but just like to listen to a nice record. In that it really succeeded.
