Revengine – II

Releasedate: 2009
By: Sabine van Gameren

Revengine, a metal band from Finland, dropped their promo at the Tempelores editor table, for reviewing. It is their second promo and it is simply called: “II”

The band is formed about two years ago, so still a bit of a newbees. This promo contains four songs and all are quite different from eachother.
It starts off with “F(r)iends” which made me smile. In Finland there is a teenage rock band called Negative (REVIEW of their album) and for years I have been wondering how the vocals of their singer would sound with a more mature, manly voice. Here in “F(r)iends” I found it. Yet, this is the only thing why it reminds me to this teenage band, there is not too much of an connection with their music otherways.
Second is “Disco BS” which echoes Metallica all over. The more garage elements come forward in here as well, making it a band more steady. “The Wait” is more a song that stands alone from the rest by being more original, fresh.
The closer is “Yet here we are” which I found similar to the sound of the South African band Seether.

Overall a nice promo qualitywise, but I don’t really heard what this band is about. The influences are clear, but it sounds like a collection of four random songs rather than it would make it to an EP. There is no connection between the songs as what we call: an own sound.
