Releasedate: 22-05-2009; Label: Roadrunner Records
By: Nina Mende

Camp Kill Yourself or CKY is an American rock band that was formed in West Chester, Pennsylvania in 1998. Currently consisting of vocalist and guitarist Deron Miller, guitarist and producer Chad I. Ginsburg, drummer Jess Margera and bassist Matt Deis, the band has released three studio albums: Volume 1 in 1999, Infiltrate•Destroy•Rebuild in 2002 and An Answer Can Be Found in 2005. The band shares its name with the CKY video series, a series of skate and prank videos (and its crew) created by Bam Margera, brother of drummer Jess. CKY’s music has been featured in all four CKY videos and various other related projects including Jackass, Jackass: The Movie, Viva La Bam, Haggard, Bam’s Unholy Union, Viva la Bands and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3. Their songs have also featured in the video games Burnout Revenge, Backyard Wrestling: Don’t Try This at Home, Jackass: The Game and the soundtrack to Resident Evil: Apocalypse.

Carver City is the fourth studio album by American alternative rock band CKY. Four years we had to wait for it, but finally we can hold it in hands. The sound has not changed much since then. You can still recognize a CKY song when you hear it. The distorted guitars, Deron’s vocals and the typical riffs are still part of the band’s music. Typical for CKY besides all that are also the time changes in the middle of a song. The lyrics and music are pure and without any mainstream additions, still as free spirited as it used to be. The music is perfect for skateboarding, surfer or bmx events and similar ones as well. The songs on the album blend smoothly so you don’t always realise when a new song has begun. The lyrics are an important part of the music as well as they contain a message. “A#1 Roller Rager” has dreamy melodies in the background whereas “Old Carver’s Bones” has a little bit of a creepy and ominous sound. The last song “The Era Of An End” has extremely clean and pure vocals, showing Deron’s singing skills but still Chad’s typical distorted guitar sound. Free minded CKY rock through the eleven songs on this album (plus bonus tracks) and never get boring.

This album is not only a must for all CKY fans but also all other alternative fans.
