The Russian band Nova Art is making progressive metal and released their second album “Follow Yourself” four years after their debut.
Nova Art formed in 2000. The band made its way into Europe while playing on the Dutch Progpower festival and Red Alert Open Air festival in Ukraine. The band recorded their second full length in 2008. Musicwise the music is challenging and a bit of a battle with the listener. The pushing of the music and the taking of the feedback seems a continuous process in this album. A bit of a flirt with melodic metal is there. A little wink to the Swedish style. The melodic elements are taking more influence in the music than expected.
The band varies within songs with their style a bit. Don’t expect to hear one full album with all the same and even more of the same. Riffs can turn out to be exciting en unexpected like in the seventh song on the album “Just Raining”. Vocal wise, there are a lot of different styles to notice as well. Luckily they did not take this too far, but pleasantly meet the borders.
Overall I hope the band goes on with making this music and fine-tune the total outcome because this is a band with potential. I am curious of what they are going to bring more in the future.
