Paganizer is a Swedish Death metal band formed by “Rogga”Johansson. It is the 7th album of the Swedes, who are known as being anti-christs, which is released now and it is called: “Scandinavian Warmachine”.
The cover looks to me like it comes out of some sort of fantasy computer game. Death bodies lying in the snow and flying through the air and some futuristic monster sets the town on fire.
In the music I don’t really find that image of the cover. The music is surely raw, dangerously demanding and even has a cocky attitude. It’s old school, giving space for each musician to lay down some statements, throw out their guts and spit fire in whatever way they want. The vocals sound real, low grunting and make you feel that it comes straight from the heart. No rebels without a cause here, that is a point I adore since not all bands in this genre sound that much like they seriously mean it. Roger Johansson might be known to you from other projects as well. I think I know about 13,14 but there might be more. And with Paganizer he smacks down another 16 tracks on your plate. It’s old school, not too much of an experiment.
Drums on this album come to me like a surprise. I expected some ordinary stuff here, but Matthias shows his skills of well. He got the that going and jumps out of the background which was different from what I expected. Nice!
Paganizer is for those who like Grave and those who like Dismember. Mr. Johansson will surely be working on something new already, we’ll see how long it takes before his name shows up again.
