Venue: Das Bett, Frankfurt (Germany)

Pascal Finkenauer is a German solo artist from Hamburg who worked many times with Fettes Brot, a big German Hip-Hop act. He just released a new album and was now on Solo Acoustic Tour through the tiniest clubs in the nation. Nor was there much advertisement for his shows. That’s why he played in a club in Frankfurt tonight called Das Bett. It was a tiny club and quite hard to find because there was no sign on the outside, it looked like any other house from the outside. Inside it was very dark and small.
Not many people were there to see Pascal perform, but that wasn’t the intention either. It was a very familiar atmosphere, much closer and way more personal than on usual concerts. There was no show, it was all plain and extremely personal, from him to us. All he had on stage was his apple mac and an acoustic guitar. The mac he used for the background pictures, which where only shadows on a wall. The dark black and white atmosphere made it even more intimate and emotional. All his songs had a deeper meaning, and he sang them with all of his heart. Pascal barely looked up while singing. Even after the songs he was not making much eye contact with the audience. During one song he forgot the lyrics, but he was cool about it. That is live and personal, without any stage attitude, pure music straight from the maker. It was a nice gig for a change: Slow, calm and acoustic, small and underground. Let’s keep it real. Pascal Finkenauer did too.
