When I got the CD of Spyder Babyin my hands, the first thing that I noticed
was the artwork. On front of the album you see a baby with the death in his
eyes next to a big black spider. A visualization of the artist name.
Spyder Baby is a solo act of Stevie Banch. He brings with Spyder Baby an industrial
metal project. Also, he puts inspiration out of other harder genres like punk.
Spider Baby prefers to be unique, not to be compared with others. Therefore
I will describe my feelings about the music without doing any comparing with
other bands.
The first few times I listened to the album, I put it on as background music
while I was working. That just doesn’t work out! This is music you want
to see, feel and experience at the same time.
Stevie Banch puts his deepest emotions in his songs. When you listen to his
lyrics you feel a lot of anger, pain, unreachable and bittersweet victory. It’s
like a teenager writing about his misery in his diary but shouted out loud,
I mean very loud, to the world.
While listening to this album you also feel an incredible level of ambition.
Spider Baby wants to take over the world with his music. I am sure he will get
far; the album is a solid start for a project like these.
One of the strongest parts of the album is the way he uses they guitars to support
his vocals. It all fits together and whether you like the genre or not, you
can not deny that the musical arrangements are done very well. Besides the people
who like the industrial metal genre I wonder if there will be people who like
Spyder Baby. As my younger brother put me in my place while I was listening
to this music at home: “Keep that horrible noise down!”
