Metallica – Broke, Beat and Scarred

Releasedate: 03-04-2009; Label: Universal
By: Nina Mende

The next Metallica single is out and it is a collector’s edition again. All three cases have the coffin in the center with the band name above it, around it differs. The collector’s box has a beach-like surrounding held in sepia. In this one you can also find the lyrics to the single.

The single is a typical Metallica song with its metal riffs and the fast drums. It seems like Broken, Beat and Scarred has a bigger focus on instrumentals and solos than vocals. The live versions begin with James talking to the audience. Stuff like they have now been together for 27 years and are still reaching number 1 in the charts. You can also hear a lot of cheering on the live versions. And you can feel the typical Metallica power they have when playing live. This atmosphere comes right through the speakers when listening to the live versions. You can tell that there’s a lot of fun at the shows.

The DVD is very interesting. The first video is a live video where you can see what you heard earlier if you have all three CDs. The stage is centered and fans are standing around it. There is some pyro show and the stage seems huge. The second video is a music video which is fitting the song perfectly well; A deep and sad song, very thoughtful. The video is shot in the desert and has an interesting ending. The last video on the DVD is an interview with each member talking about the band, live shows, life on the road and the video shooting. I like this one most because it is extremely interesting and you hear a lot about the behind the scenes.

This is another must-have from Metallica to all their fans. Go get it while it’s still out there.
