05-04-2009 De/Vision

Supports: X-Division, Janosch Moldau; Venue: Batschkapp, Frankfurt (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

There were three bands tonight and the first one started earlier than expected, so I happened to miss half of them, which didn’t matter because they were not too exciting anyway.

The first band was called X-Division, a German electro band who seemed to play many cover songs from various other bands, mostly slow electro songs. The band consisted of two guys only while the singer seemed very inexperienced and shy. He did not have much expression on stage nor knew how to entertain the audience. Some people in the audience still liked it a lot though.

The next artist was Janosch Moldau, a single artist playing guitar after starting the main sound on his apple computer. JanoschMoldau is an unconventional electronic-pop artist from cologne seeming quite Christian. He played dreamy and melodic electro music and sang just like that. He tried to animate the audience to go along a bit but was more caught in his own little world on stage. The audience seemed to like it but wasn’t too sure about what to think of him either.

But as De/Vision entered the stage they were all sure that they like it. The cheering was loud and the crowded Batschkapp began to move along to the beats and melodies of the two guys on stage. It was a tour with electro set only, that’s why they didn’t have a live band along this time. They played very old and new songs and were loved by their fans. A lot of cheering and warm welcoming made not only the band feel home again. In all these 20 years on stage they have grown a strong fan community. There was a lot of fog used on stage that you could hardly see anything, the laser and the flashing made it even harder. But nobody seemed to care as long as they could hear De/Vision. The audience was quite mixed and you could not name them with one word, some electroheads, some Goths and many other kinds of people filled the venue. After more than an hour, lots of talking with the audience and a lot of cheering as well as two times coming back on stage for an encore the whole show was over and everybody went home happy with still some songs of the evening stuck in their heads.
