The Basque band Darkness By Oath released their second full length album named “ Fear Yourself”. They make melodic metal and they were formed in 2002 now signed under Cyclone Empire.
There is no way to turn around the fact that this band must have gotten heir inspirations from bands like At The gates. Their influences are clearly hearable from the first moment you start listening to this music.
As they have been involved with Dan Swanö for the mixing and mastering the Swedish melodic metal sounds can be felt though your veins. A slight touch of death metal is included. Somehow it can be hard to keep in mind that this is a Basque band as the influences of the Swedish masters in this genre is there all the time.
The band keeps their music fresh by not ripping of the sound of those, but just be inspired and that is what gives this album the right of existence. The start of the album is may be a bit of a difference when it comes to that, those songs are perhaps a bit too recognizable if you never heard their music before. I found the drums not the most interesting add to their music, where I hoped they would add some more excitement with these.
Overall this is a record the band can be satisfied with. Not the most unique one, but certainly worth to give a try.
