02-04-2009 Zeromancer

Supports: Essence of Mind, Scream of Silence; Venue: Nachtleben, Frankfurt (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

Unfortunately I only got to see the last song of the first band who where Norwegians as well: Essence of Mind. They started quite early, only half an hour after doors open, which was quite sad because not everybody got to see them then since many people where still outside in the sun, chatting with friends and drinking some coffee. But this one song I saw I liked a lot and am now curious to see a whole show of them. Their music was EBM like, three guys: guitar, vocals and keyboard. They rocked and it seemed like most of the people in the crowded Nachtleben enjoyed it as well. There was big cheering afterwards as well.

The next band was the only German one on this tour, much slower, calmer and way more melancholic than the other two bands. Scream Silence is a so called Dark-Rock band coming from Berlin. They have seven albums released so far. Many people enjoyed their slow and melancholic music. Some even sang along. Scream Silence performed very passionate. The audience could feel that and really appreciated that. Their set didn’t last very long though, only about half an hour. But they will also play at the Wave Gothic Treffen, so there’s another chance to see them.

Last band of the night was Zeromancer. Zeromancer is a Norwegian Industrial rock band formed in 1999 by members of the band Seigmen. The current line-up is Alex Møklebust (vocals), Kim Ljung (bass guitar/backup vocals), Noralf Ronthi (drums) Lorry Kristiansen (programming) and Dan Heide (lead guitar). They have released four studio albums by now. The audience went wild as they entered the stage. Zeromancer began right away, the light wasn’t too great for taking pictures and they also had fog, but it did fit well to the atmosphere and the music. Everybody in the totally crowded Nachtleben was dancing and cheerin, and it was getting hotter in there as well. The sweat started running down on everybody. NO wonder the singer began to take off his shirt and soon stood on stage bare-chested. He danced a lot on stage as well and was totally into the music, almost ecstatic. Kim (bass) and Alex (vocals) talked German with the audience most of the time. The club had an amazing atmosphere during the show: timeless and as if we were all one. Many people sang along and not only to the released and popular songs. Zeromancer also played songs of their newest album. The band rocked that hard, that I was afraid the keyboarder would hit his head onto his instrument every second the way he banged behind it. Luckily he didn’t, but it was a very energetic show which lasted for more than an hour plus an encore.
