The German folk metal Band from Frankfurt named Nachtgeschrei, is releasing their second full length album “Am Rande Der Welt”
The first minutes of the album are instrumental, so I did got a surprise when the vocals came in. German folk metal, ok that is not something I find myself listening to all the time. It takes me quite a while before I get use to the vocals which are somehow different every song. As soon as you get the feeling, you know this is another medieval metal band that is doomed to success. Pipe bags, medieval clothes a pagan night comes and the beer floats. Surely the scene for it is growing and Nachtgeschrei grows within it. Fans of In Extremo or Tanzwut will recognize some of those bands in it, but the typical “camp fire” feeling is what Nachtgeschrei adds. Don’t expect high tempo’s or technical music here though!
Nachtgeschrei seems to me like a band you enjoy live much more than you will enjoy them on album. “Am Rande Der Welt” has a lot of acoustic parts which surely bring the atmosphere but I hoped for a bit more power in their sound, which I rarely heard and deeply missed. After listening to the album for a couple of songs, my hunger for some fire is enormous and I just want to put some agression in my cd player. Satisfactory, but far from salvation.
