Joe Coffee – When The Fabric Don’t Fit The Frame

Releasedate: 15-03-2009
By: Nina Mende

Joe Coffee was founded in New York in 2000. This is their third CD.

With a smoky voice and punky shouting in the chorus Joe Coffee starts rocking your speakers or headphones with their new album “When The Fabric Don’t Fit The Frame”. Most song titles are as long as the album title. Punky and harsh riffs give you a great entrance into their world. The first song ends very abrupt. Therefore the following song starts out very melodic with a not as smoky voice. The music could be described as punk or even rockabilly, but the album contains much more than that: it also includes many sub-styles of this genre. A quite interesting album with a wide range. The style seems to change song after song but a main style still exists in each and every single one of them: Pure rock’n’roll, far from mainstream and commerce. “You’re Gonna Make Me Do Bad” sounds quite creepy and horror movie like while “The Good Life (I’ve Seen It)” begins romantic and very acoustic and I would consider it the ballad of the album, so slow and emotional, touchy and thoughtful as it is. This song also has talking in the verses while the choruses are sung, a typical “lighter” song. Many songs are great to dance to in a rock’n’roll style while others are great to mosh to or to – as said before – to sway your lighters along. There is also a saxophone on “Baby’s Comin’ Home Today” with jazzy melodies and very catchy tunes. “I Don’t Want This No More” is quite slow as well, but more dark and sad. The last song is very powerful with harsh riffs and pure punk again, including smoky vocals and aggressive sound. It’s the last power before album ends. The album seems quite short although it contains eleven songs, so time to press replay.
