Absu is a black metal formation from the US and they just released their album “Absu” after about 8 years of silence.
The album starts off with a quite traditionally sound in “Between The Absu of Eridu & Erech”. But as in a rule the riffs in this album are far from original, which is quite a disappointment. Been there, heard it many times before. Vocals are not too much a subject of change either. Absu might have brought up in some interesting song names that got my attention, but the lack of originality is striking. When it comes to drums I am more impressed, their well implemented within the music. It is interesting to see that the band uses keys on this album as well.
In an atmospheric way, the band takes it all sinister, as their reputation brought them here before.
For a black metal fan, this album is just not it. The most interesting aspects of black metal is smashed to pieces by Absu and a lot of noise is left. I did expect a lot more from them.
