Unlight – Death Concecrates With Blood

Releasedate: 30-01-2009; Label: Massacre Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

The in 1997 founded black metal band Unlight, being announced as ” Germany’s biggest” is releasing their third album “Death Concecrates With Blood”.

The band used their time at their old label to grow big in the underground scene with purpose to break out of it by getting signed at Massacre records. The Germans have besides that black metal sound also influences of old school Thrash in their music. This shows of in a riffs, where a slightly catchiness is found.
Most of the riffs are quite basic though. A bit more originality would be a pro. And that catchiness I talk about will obviously not be welcomed with open arms, as if most black metal fans are not too fond of commercial work, which in this way surely is the fact. I found the album easy to pick up (and that for a black metal band?!) and songs like “Becoming The Ungodly Sin” and ” That Old Black Magic Spell” to stick in mind easily.

For this album it is so clear that those purists out there won’t like it, for those who like the different influences that make it a bit more joyful to listen to I can say: give it a shot.
