Yumma-re – Eden

Releasedate: 26-01-2009; Label: My Kingdom Music
By: Sabine van Gameren

Yumma-re, founded in 1996, are a band from Italy making “”hypnotic music”. In the start of January they release their album “Eden” via My Kingdom Records.

An impression of the music Yumma-re makes is interesting to think of. You could mix up the best of Björk, the Soul/jazz formation Aphrodesia from Denmark and the electronic danceability that comes with I Was A Teenage Satan Worshipper. When these names does not bring you an image, then think of ambient, jazz, indie and alternative music dedicated to art. Imagine yourself walking in New York visiting a hip art gallery and meet young urban professionals. A glass of wine in your hand, a lounge area and an evening filled with interesting deep going conversations. The artwork of the album points out this vision as well.

The band serves you not only in English but also brings some French songs and one song in another language which I assume it is Italian as I don’t know the language in that song.
The atmosphere in the music makes it very relaxing music to listen to, somehow a bit darkness here and there but yet so much to enjoy.
The band surely has an interesting vision on how to use the instruments, making it worth to listen. For just a random shallow listener it might be more a background music is what I realize when some family walks in my office and note that the music sounds quite flat to them.
