Now this CD was a little challenging. I needed some time to figure out the whole release thingy with the different versions and what is what. I know finally understood and will now share my new won knowledge with you.
First step to lead out of confusion: I am talking about the single release of Metallica to “All Nightmare Long” which was released in three versions: Two plain CD ones and one DVD. All include the main single plus two live versions filmed or recorded at the release party/show in Berlin of the Metallica album “Death Magnetic”.
So this is what you can find in stores:
1. The CD 1 in the 3 Tray digi-pack
2. The second CD with two different live tracks in a normal case
3. The DVD with live footage.
OK, so far so good. What else do you need to know? Track lists of each are listed below; band information is unneeded, isn’t it? I mean, it’s Metallica. Who doesn’t know them? Oh, yeah, right. What it all sounds like and what the DVD is like.
So while I tried to figure out everything I listened to the singles and later watched the DVD and must say I like all three a lot. It is a great idea for fans and collectors. The live tracks and the single are not the 3-minute-mainstream-radio-songs-length but have an average of about 7 minutes! “All Nightmare Long” is a typical Metallica song with the hard and fast riffs.
In the live versions you can hear the fans screaming and singing along. You can also hear how James Hetfield is getting them to shout even louder.
Very interesting I found the DVD. One of the two videos is a documentary about the huge run on the albums as they were released. People came from everywhere to Berlin to get their copy signed, some backstage impressions and an interview. The other video is about the release show at the O2 arena in Berlin, three songs of this event you can witness here.
Enjoy this gorgeous collection.
