29-11-2008 Ashcorn

Venue: Viernheim (Germany)

Back in Euope and back to shows here. This time I went to a festival called Full Flavour Festival which is a sort of exchange student festival, organized by students for students and the bands are – mostly – students. So a quite young event.

The only band that wasn’t students anymore (as far as I could judge it) and also the only reason why I was there was a band from Italy called Ashcorn.

The bands at this festival were metal or punk, the audience was accordingly. There were two different colors of wristbands. Red for under 16 years and green for over 16 years. Many wore red..I think that gives you a hint on what age average the visitors were. Yet the gym in Viernheim, where it all took place, was extremely crowded. Most kids wore either Ashcorn band shirts or shirts of the current Toten Hosen tour.

First band to play was Ashcorn who began at 9pm. Their music is melodic metal accompanied by a keyboard. The kids rushed up front as the band was about to enter the stage. The light was quite band compared to last year, but there were more people and nobody cared for the bad light. The sound was good. The band played for 45 minutes only, the audience liked it though. They moshed and were totally amazed by the strong sound of the Italians. Metal shouting and singing combined, melodic and not too hard, that’s how I even liked it quite a lot. The guys were very confident on stage but did not really talk too much with the audience, which didn’t matter. Most of the kids were terrible in English anyway. Ashcorn got the audience going and got the kids shouting and jumping along, the audience cheered a lot and even shouted for an encore. Since there were more bands to play Ashcorn couldn’t come back for an encore though.

I didn’t see much of the other bands, but I could hear the audience having fun. After midnight it was quite empty because everybody under 16 had to leave.
