Carmen Gray – Welcome To Grayland

Releasedate: 10.09.2008; Label: Sony BMG
By: Nina Mende

Even though “Carmen Gray” signed a recording contract with Sony/BMG in the spring 2005 and released their debut album, “The Portrait of Carmen Gray,” September 2006, the group itself has been around much longer than that. Three of its members, Lappe, JJ and Pete, have played together for a decade. Now their second album “Welcome To Grayland” has been released.

The music is melancholic and thoughtful, about love and desire. Carmen Gray are rocking through the 11 songs on the album with a touch of country. A very passionate album, especially the songs “At The End Of The Rainbow”, “Sacrifice”, “He’s Left To Fight This World Alone” and “Dreams” are very emotional and passionate, very slow as well. Some other songs are very fast and rocky. The album has great and catchy melodies that get into your mind quite fast. They get stuck there and you keep on having songs in your ear. The vocals are sung by Niklas mostly, but Lappe sings the lead vocals on “He’s Left To Fight This World Alone” and also sings most of the backing vocals. A great album.
