Nahui – A Blue Fire

Releasedate: 29-09-2008; Label: My Kingdom Music
By: Sabine van Gameren

Nahui is a band from Italy. It is actually one guy called: Luca Giancotti. Under the name of Nahui he released two promo’s, in 2003 “Tidal Wave” and in 2005 “Around The Shadows”. Now it is time for his debut full length “Nahui”.

Luca Giancotti did some projects before this full length was made. Back in the days of 1993 he played in the Death/Thrash band Die. That band was more a teenage band though. Later on he played bass in the stoner band Black Rainbows.
From Nahui you can expect a dark alternative sounds. It is comparable to the band Shamrain, but the vocals are a bit deeper and darker.
On “A Blue Fire” Luca took care of most instruments himself. Only the drums on the album were done by Andrea Martella, some additional guitars by Stefano Zanetti, and the synths at the song “Broken Glasses” was done by Ascanio Borga.

The sound of the album is something you might have to get used to. The first song on the album is maybe not a starter that invites you to keep listening, but if you give the album a fair chance you will get surprised. The melodies in the music are getting you, into ecstasy when you listen to it concentrated. I would not advice to put the music on as a background sound, because you would totally miss the essence of it. Put it your CD player, put on your headphones and close you off for the rest of the world. Luca Giancotti does know how to bring emotion in his music, while his voice might not be a dramatic one as in the way that you hear it so often in this music. The songs are sometimes filled with guitar riffs that show up quite unexpected. Maybe sometimes the could have been placed differently in the music because sometimes you really wonder why it is there. Like someone felt the need to show of some skills while the music was not asking for it.
“A Blue Fire” is a typical album you listen on occasions that you feel like listening it; you probably won’t put it on, on a daily base. It is a surprising album. I would say, give it a chance yourself!
