Releasedate: 30. June 2023 Label: Rude Records / Equal Vision Records
Anberlin is an American rock band that was formed in 2002, but disbanded in 2014. Although they have reunited in 2018, this is their first release since they disbanded in 2014. Finally, if I may say so. “Convicted” is the name of this EP. It comes with five songs and lasts for twenty-three minutes.
“Lacerate” starts out the EP with electronic beats and slowly grows louder and stronger, before it pulls you along entirely. The volume increases and decreases like waves, pulling you back and forth, which is a wonderful way to slowly prepare you for what is yet to come. “Lacerate” fades into the following song “Decoder”. “Decoder” begins strong and catchy. With a thriving rhythm the band celebrates their return. And so do we, while listening.
Through smooth and slow arrangements, “Banshee” is calming the waves and ripples previous songs might have caused. “Animals” picks up the pace quite a bit again and brings back the electronic vibes. The vocals of the chorus sound very intense and are almost shouted. “Nothing More” makes the scale even again with its soft and smooth sounds. It ends the album with the sound of waves and leaves us behind in thoughts.
Anberlin is back. Finally, if I may say so. And this is only an EP. So lets keep our eyes and ears open for what is yet to come. Until then, enjoy “Convinced EP”.
