Solisia is a Progressive Power Metal band from Italy. They just released their first promo cd “The Film Of My Life”
The band is born in 2006 and this release contains the first songs they wrote together as a band. As they said, this young formation has created music with a Gothic versus Dream Theather spirit. But maybe those are just some bands they like, I don’t hear the connection too well.
The vocals, done by femme fatale Marilena Stigiano, are a little different than vocalists of comparing young bands. She plays around during the songs and you can recognize that the band is from Italy easily by the accent. I think there is more possible, from the side of the vocals.
Musically, the band chooses metal as their point of reference, but they tend to sound typical like pop/metal. What kind of description is that you would say?
Well, the band doesn’t go all the way in heaviness. I actually smiled once when I thought that Italy could send the band to Eurovision Songfestival as well. This means they could do well in charts.
Instrumentally, the band has some strong parts. They gave their instrumental skills a nice part next to the vocals. It is not like one of them is dominating.
The four song on this promo CD are some of the first the wrote. Maybe the band should have wait a while before recording and see what else they could have made. You never get a second chance for a first impression.
