Interview with: PSG
By: Nina Mende
This interview with the guys of PSG was taken on April 26th at the Finvasion tour in Frankfurt shortly before the sound check of the guys. A really funny interview, we laughed a lot, actually all the time what you cannot hear by reading the interview, unfortunately. PSG are really nice and funny guys. A big thank you to them for the nice interview.
PSG are:
Mike – Vocals,
Jay – Guitar/Backing Vocals,
Misty Fingez – Lead guitar,
Wege – Bass
How are you people?
All: Fine!! A little bit tired but in a good way.
How was the tour so far?
All: It has been really, really good and fun. Different and new experiences. Like Yesterday we had to sweep the floor.
Mike: Not me, I had smoke coming out of my ears and so I just went outside and just breathe.
So you are playing in Germany and Spain for the first time, right?
Misty: Yes.
Are more countries planned?
Misty: At the moment this tour doesn’t continue anymore.
Mike: But that’s a good sign, we must have done something correctly.
What is the difference between performances in Finland and in Germany or Spain?
Mike: We don’t know about Spain yet.
Misty: About Spain I expect the people to be…
Mike: more intense…
Misty: more outgoing. They pretty much take part of the show.
You hope or you think so or you know?
Misty: We know, both of us (Mike and Misty) have lived in Spain and went to concerts there and it is pretty much like that. No matter what band plays there.
And in Germany? How is it different to Finland…
Misty: In Germany the nights have been completely different every night, but they are more into it when they come to a gig. If they bother come to a room and see us they are dancing. In Finland they just stand there and watch.
Mike: Being kind of music cops there. The thing is there are two girls here, one from Berlin and one from blaaah, I don’t know how to pronounce the name. They are both sick with fever and flue, they asked their fathers for money to go to the show here. And I mean that’s something. That’s just beautiful.
True! What did you expect from the tour in Germany?
Misty: Actually I don’t know what we expected. We didn’t discuss that, we don’t have common expectations. I myself expected for myself to have a good time and good shows. And have new people listen to us.
Mike: The Jade, the other band, we have become like best friends. And it’s been great. You don’t get that for any money, and we did so much, it’s really precious.
Jay: We really have had cheap jobs. People have broken up, bands have broken up, we have been down. But every time we have gathered up.
How would you introduce yourselves to your fans in Europe?
Mike: Crazy Motherfuckers.
All: Exactly. Absolutely.
Mike: We’re kind people. When you go on a tour you learn so much that you can’t learn when you just stay home in your regular life where you go from job, bar, home, job, bar…. *laughter and all talking at once*
Misty: What was the question again?
How would you introduce yourselves to your fans in Europe?
Misty: mhhhh. Aha. What can you expect when you come to a PSG show: we give every tiny little piece of heart.
Mike: 110 %
Misty: yeah, we broke our arms and legs and heads, everything. We give everything on stage. When we go backstage we are dead guys… for a while. And honestly, we don’t fake, we don’t do anything like that. We just play what we wanna play.
Mike: *singing* as you can hear my voice is cracking up.
Where did you play yesterday?
All: Aschaffenburg
What does your typical day on tour like?
Mike: You don’t wanna know…
Misty: We don’t talk to each other.
Mike: We plan how to kill each other. No, I’m kidding. We’re talking, walking around town, have some cups of coffee.
*laughter*
*Ville interrupting*
Misty: We try to rest every free time, trying to fill our stomaches, we have no money to shop… Nothing special.
Do you have a ritual before going on stage?
Misty: Yeah, no…
Mike: I always have to shit before going on stage. In Finish it is called keikkakakka. *laughter* It calms me down…
Misty: In German it’s called Angstscheisse…
*laughter, singing*
Misty: I climb the walls like a spider… *laughter*
Is an album planned?
Misty: Yes, if we finally have time when nobody gets fired from the band… last year we always had to practice when we had new musicians. So we had no time to write new songs.
Mike: I have a few in my pocket, I just have to explain why I do songs for girls. Softer and sweeter. You don’t have to be screaming all the time.
Misty: I think we will record something in the summer.
Mike: I think this has thought us a lot so there is a lot we can talk about now, there will be a lot of new songs. I hope that there will be one record company seeing us and taking us.
Why did you choose PSG as band name?
Misty: Every time when we do interviews I answer this question. Even though I wasn’t in the band when that name came up, but I asked the same question. They told me that an ex-drummer did a drawing which was labeled Psycho Star God, then they did a song about it, and it became the name of the band. And now it is just PSG.
Do you still think about the music business like you did 14 years ago? What changed?
All: It changed!!
Mike: Everything changes all the time.
Jay: We used to get gigs to quite good places, nowadays it is quite hard to get a concert when you don’t have a label. Back then I could call a place and say we are coming there, and they told me dates. But back then there weren’t that many bands.
Mike: There are thousands of bands now, but we don’t try to compete. We do our thing and hope that maybe someday somebody realizes that we have the thing to go farther. Music is a free therephy anways, or else I would be in a mad house by now.
So you think or hope you can change something with the music you are playing?
All: No… not really.
Misty: I really think that something is gonna be changed. We are trying to do stuff. We attended this charity festival in January against child abuse.
Mike: It’s all over the world. And things like that happen all over the world. And we hope that we can help somebody with that.
How did you get to play at that charity concert?
Misty: I was actually one of the persons who arranged that, we were asked to play there, so we played there. In Finland, there was that woman at the charity show, and now she was again in Cologne, she actually is from England and she asked us to do a Metal against child porn.
