Thursday night at Berlin’s Wild at Heart – once again this was going to be one sleazy-amazing evening!

While this was my first time at a Leaded Fuel show, I’ve liked the support band for quite some time now. Just like me, the five boys of Synthetic Sex are Berlin based, so we’ve crossed paths before. The band has been around for little over a year, but has already acquired a reputation as a great live band. Synthetic Sex, whose influences are in glam metal and the new Swedish sleaze, started off their set with the howl of an old hand-driven fire-siren which was simply the right way to open a powerful rock show. Most people had at first been reluctant, but the space in front of the stage was soon filling up and people were enjoying themselves. You could tell that this band was here to deliver and the stage of the Wild at Heart was definitely too small!

Only little of that energy was lost during the break. When Leaded Fuel entered the stage they managed to lure even the last sceptics out from the back of the venue within only a few minutes into their set. The band was founded in Stockholm in early 2007 and the band members have all had other projects within Sweden’s sleaze rock scene before. Leaded Fuel really rocked the crowd, even people who suspectedly were there mainly to look pretty were beginning to really let it loose. It didn’t matter that the Wild at Heart was far from being sold out, and even when both guitarists had one of their strings break on subsequent songs, we weren’t let down a minute. Instead we got a piece of “La Bamba” while the problem was fixed. Leaded Fuel also played Starlet Suicide’s “All My Girls And Boys” and only then I realized that guitarist Dallas Chrome had been in that band. I knew I had seen him before.

After one encore and frantic applause it was time for me to catch the last train home, but I’m sure that afterwards the party continued and the Swedes that earlier on had been sitting around lonely and unrecognized were now right in the middle of it.
