Releasedate: 11-04-2008; Label: My Kingdom Music
By: Sabine van Gameren
Ten years ago, to be exact: in 1998, Italy two guys formed a band called: The Void. After two demo’s and two promo releases the band signed with My Kingdom Records and is now, anno 2008, releasing their first full length album called “Vision Of The Truth”.
Musically, this band touches you in the dark side of gothic/doom metal. The comparisation with a band as Paradise Lost is easily made, but a lot of bands get compared with them lately. To tell you the truth, none of them meets the sound of Paradise Lost as closely as The Void. The drama of the doom elements goes a little deeper though. The Void is also more divers in their overall arrangements. They keep on getting my attention, while I personally rarely listen to a complete album of Paradise Lost without getting distracted.
The Void makes it all a little more aggressive and brings their own interpretation of darkness and doom to the music. When the second half of the albums comes on you start seeing The Void finally as being The Void and not the next Paradise Lost.
