Jon Mesek – In my head

Releasedate: 09-05-2008; Label: Sony BMG
By: Nina Mende

Jon Mesek is a singer and songwriter from Munich, Germany. He started with music as his grandmother gave him an old piano as he was seven years old.
Since then he learnt how to play piano and later on started to write songs and sing. He tried playing in bands several times, but somehow it never really worked out. Now he is a solo artist who lived in Liverpool for some years, playing great music and released his debut album “In My Head”.

The album is nice and slow, very thoughtful and deep. With the piano and acoustic guitar it sounds very natural, combined with the soft voice of Jon Mesek this album touches your heart. The songs are all very personal and tell a story. “Get Me Out Of Here” somehow stands out with the lyrics and the melody, I caught myself singing and moving along quite quick. The music somehow reminds me slightly of Kent or The Crash, but only melody wise. Although the album is quite slow it still great to swing along and dance. The lyrics of the song “People” is very interesting to listen to. The ballad “Everything Seems So Wonderful” gets you deep inside, a very passionate song in my opinion, with nice piano playing. “Like A Ballerina” differs slightly from the other songs, it’s louder and a little bit faster. A jazzier song is “I Got Hope” with the guitar and the style of piano playing. The lyrics of “Try” make me think, interesting yet do I wonder about the story behind it.

“In My Head” is a calm, touchy and emotional album. You can hear Jon’s passion for music. It’s a great album for people who like piano, a sweet voice, soft and touchy and great songs with a deeper meaning. Really great.
