Northern Lite is an electro rock band from Germany. Their newest album is called
“Super Black” and is the sixth Northern Lite album since 2001. They
are rocking together for more than ten years now. The guys had to cope with
many ups and downs, survived it all and are still around which should not be
taken for granted anymore.
So here they are with a new album. The layout is held very dark with flowers
on the cover. Half of the album is quite calming, the other half quite danceable,
yet not too fast-paced. The melodies are easy and get stuck in your head quickly,
as well as the lyrics. This is one of these albums that you might consider background
music in the first place but are impressed once you realize that they go faster
and deeper into your brain than others. The sound of “Girl With A Gun”
reminds of the old Atari games from back in the day. “I Can’t Believe”
includes a Spanish Guitar playing. The digital sound combined with EBM and rock
elements create a nice mix and cause a sort of addiction to the listener. When
the CD stops you feel the urge to hear it again. A nice and dark album slightly
reminding of bands like De/Vision, Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd (music-wise during
their electrocution period), Kraftwerk and some other NDW (Neue Deutsche Welle)
bands.
