Paul Epic is an apt name for someone whose journey has seen him push his physical
extremes to explore his emotional ones.
His story begins with a young Paul playing the piano and singing in a gospel
choir. And it continues with him funnelling his energy and strength into power
lifting, winning the North American power-lifting championship twice and being
crowned the World Champion in 1994. After testing his physical limitations,
he began battling the limits of speed through motorcycle racing and skydiving.
Yet under all that strength and a mosaic of tattoos he was also a poet.
The album “South of Heaven, North of Hell” reflects his life with
all its ups and downs. A very powerful and strong, yet very personal and touchy
rock album reminding of Nickelback or Puddle of Mudd. The lyrics are very authentic
and you can easily relate to them. The music sounds very down-to-earth and not
like some pushed band from a major label. There’s a nice balance between
aggressive and fast songs and slow and thoughtful songs. The song “Ours
To Have“ is a duet with a female singer, a very nice touchy song. The female
voice gives the song a little bit more of a dramatic and sad touch, as well
as a certain depth.
