02-02-2010 The Casualties

Supports: Die Nakse Bananen; Venue: Watt, Rotterdam (Netherlands)
By: Sabine van Gameren

Two punk bands playing on a Tuesday evening in Rotterdam. In a cozy venue that filled up pretty well.

Die Nakse Bananen is a Dutch band which name many people in the Dutch music scene might have heard of. The band has been around for 20 years and brought an own audience to the venue.

The band appeared to be quite tame on the stage. The band brought their statements but the passion behind it seemed not to come out with a lot of expression. The audience could not care less, with a beer in the hand it all comes down anyway. Therefore the band did not have to put much extra effort in entertaining them and this seems just fine for them.

Headlining today were The Casualties. The band from the USA formed around the same time as their supports. The band sticks more to the hardcore side and in contrast with what was seen on stage before the band seemed very motivated to play a good set and bring the audience in ecstasy.

The place, giving space for 150 visitors, went into chaos from the first song and towards the end it got even more interesting. Moshing, circlepit, people climbing on the stage and it seems like the audience at that moment lived up to the music. The riot was all friendly and there was a good atmosphere. The band released their last album in 2009 “We Are All We Have” of which songs were played.

The Casualties made a good party on a Tuesday night in this cozy venue in Rotterdam, a concert that people will remember long time for its intensity.
