14-01-2010 Auletta

Supports: The Hammocks; Venue: KUZ, Mainz (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

The last time I saw Auletta was the day before their debut album was released. That was a show in a little club. Now, not even a year later, I see them in a big venue, at KUZ in Mainz. And the venues was crowded. Not sure whether all these people were here because Auletta was on MTV or simply because Mainz is the hometown of the band, fact was: Everybody had a blast and danced as much as they could.

But first there was an opening act: The Hammocks. The Hammocks is a young band from Frankfurt / Germany, singing in English. Unfortunately I missed about half of their show but from what I’ve seen they were very catchy and good. The singer mentioned that the band was amazed by playing in front of such a big audience because they haven’t been playing together for that long and the first shows were in front of 40 people and not 500.

The audience was mostly teenagers, girls crowded the front rows and the boys were more in the middle of the venue. But the boys and girls were quite even in the audience. Some of the girls in the front row even made a banner for Auletta and were of course screaming as the band entered the stage. Auletta is an indie rock band from Mainz founded in 2005. The guys sing in German and I guess you can compare their music to The Hives and Mando Diao. As the guys began playing the atmosphere in the venue was changing to a living room feeling, a party with friends or simply to a very familiar and close one. Every one was in a good mood and it felt like all these people were one big family. The audience went wild to the music of Auletta, singing and dancing along and cheering even louder at the end of each song. The band was amazed and mentioned over and over again that Mainz is still the best town to play in, not only because it is home to them. Auletta played all the songs they had including two new ones, two of them with guitars only. Their music was so catchy, you just had to dance along and be in a good mood. During some songs the audience even sang for the band. Auletta was having a good time on stage, and so did their fans by seeing them. After their show they came back for two encores. The first encore was two songs long. The second one was only one song, and it also was the first song they played tonight again. The singer explained that that’s the vice of being a new band, you don’t have that many songs yet. But I am sure soon they will have more amazing songs and won’t have to start playing the songs all over again for encore. Auletta is a wonderful live band and you should definitely go check them out if you have the chance.
