Plutonium Orange, a Finnish band founded back in 2000 that after nine years of releasing various demo’s finally present their long waited debut album. Among the band members we can find Pasi Pasanen (ex Swallow the Sun) and Juha Raivo (Swallow the Sun). Together with Antti Sjöblom and Samuli Liekkinen they are Plutonium Orange.
Their debut “Volume” is mastered at the famous Finnvox Studio. The CD consists of nine tracks that according to the band bring you melodic stoner metal. After a couple of listens I would say it is more very good rock, with a touch of stoner and metal. To me it misses the typical stoner influences, it is there but mildly. The tracks are melodic but miss a certain type of groove, that I would call stoner. Although I can hear the influence from a stoner band like Queens of the Stone Age in for example “13 Minutes of Agony”.
The vocals from Samuli Liekkinen do not always fit the track. At some tracks his vocals really make the song and it fits perfectly but on other tracks it misses something. Seeing this as the only minor thing besides the fact that it might not be stoner they present a really good CD. “Wet Trails” brings forth the drumming from Pasi, using a lot of cim The layers of music sound very well together and there are certain solo’s that are really great. A CD that does make my head nod.
