V for Violence is a Helsinki based metal formation. The band released their debut album “The Cult Of V” via Osasto-a records.
That there is a lot of metal in this album is clear from the beginning of the album but nevertheless you might get a different impression at the first glance of the cover and artwork. Five well dressed men is never a punishment to look at, but it does not immediately stroke with the amount of metal that comes to you in the album.
Basically, the band has two different sorts of songs, the ones who are more gently, in a gothic and dark atmosphere. Take the album opener “The Omega Song” for example to match this description. Towards the end of that song, you get slightly introduced to that other side which contains a higher level of brutality. When you have overcome this surprise you get introduced to some vocals and riffing that meets core in all sights. Later on you get taken back to a more gothic song like “Constant of Death” but straight after that you are back into aggression.
Even thought there is a lot of aggression, or let’s say, violent passion in the music, there is still this polite attitude of them. Both sides have been merged well and make the record one logical track list. Transitions between the different sides of this band come naturally and are not that strange at all.
V for Violence seem to be the gentlemen in metal and they might hit a wide group of audience with their diversity.
