Autere – Being Dead Is A Place

Releasedate: 22-10-2009
By: Sabine van Gameren

The heavy metal formation Autere started back in 2002 in the Finnish city Turku. “Being Dead Is A Place” is the third EP the band released.

Turku, somehow did not surprise me knowing that Turku and Sweden have quite a connection as well in the past as more recent. Autere seems to be a band that musically is inspired by the Swedish melodic Death metal scene and made it theirs.
The EP contains four songs, all quite in one line. The first one “Circle of Kinetic Damage” starts like Soilwork could have done it, don’t expect too much clean vocals though. Deep raw and raspy vocals are more to expect. Nevertheless there are some clean parts to hear, but they are clearly not the main focus of the band and therefore they stand in the background mostly. The second song “Suppressed To The Slumber” makes a bit of a change to that, but here are still the riffs that make the most dominating presence in the music. The third one “Black Slumber” is more aggressive and doomed to be played live. It closes with “Contorted Leftover” which kind of sets an expectation for more. A dessert that is too small, all you want is more.

Fans of a Soilwork approach with a bit of The Haunted, will dig this band quite a lot. The might not be the most original band, but nevertheless this is melodic death metal from Finland to keep an eye on.
