Avacate is a Brittish alternative rock band from Bristol. Last year the band released their debut full length album: “Ghost Of A Former Self”
Avacate brings a cozy atmosphere with this album, starting off with the song “Us and Them” you get a quick introduction to the warm, teasing, maybe even slightly erotic female vocals from Kay Sense. They set this through in the songs, but you will be surprised at the fifth song “Talk” with some different vocals interfering with the ongoing tread. There are male vocals with urban style to hit the flow and that certainly brings something extra.
Though it is mainly the vocals to grab your attention, they would be half as powerful as they weren’t backed up with a steady instrumental package. Grooving bass is to hear, but drums should be on focus of your attention as well. Drummer Ed Gallimore never chooses the easy way out, but fills up any space there is left.
Alternative and indie is hot and going nowadays and to say is that these genres are split up in two sides; the mainstream and the elite. Mainstream you find everywhere in the charts and are widely known, while the elite is often more sophisticated and followed by a smaller, yet fanatic group of listeners. Hearing Avacate you feel a bridge is building between these two. Right now you feel there is a lot of that elite music in them, but meeting and flirting with the mainstream part is there too. It seems like the band feels very comfortable in this situation not suffer their selves to be forced into choosing which path they would go. Where ever the future might push them, we’ll keep listening.
