The Italian rockers of Nhorizon formed in 2004. Their debut full length “Skydancers” is released right now via My Kingdom Music.
Symphonical metal is a genre that has quite some stereotypes. Nhorizon seemed to be aware of this and comfortably lock themselves in that box where walls coming towards you and claustrophobia hits you faster than the guitar riffs reach your ears. The start of the album is ok, but sooner than later you feel horribly trapped in all you’ve heard before, played in a very unoriginal way on a dramatic level. Guitars might be mentioned as the most positive part of the album, as there should always be something to mention as a pro, and what hurt my ears most were the vocals that came out dreadful compared to all that has been released before on this genre. The keyboards are probably the element that makes their sound cheesy.
The band could probably sit down, totally change their way of working and just remove all the influences that has sneaked in. Maybe when the keyboards are more in the background it would make a substantial difference already, as this is by far the most leading and dominating element in their music. If the band comes to a second album, I hope it is much better and until then I can honestly say I won’t listen the album too often.
