22-11-2009 Backstreet Boys

Venue: Jahrhunderthalle, Frankfurt (Germany)

Tonight we went to see a show that was different from what we usually go to. Tonight I went to see Backstreet Boys.

Yes, they are back on tour with their new album “This Is Us”. The Backstreet Boys (also known as the BSB) is a Grammy-nominated American vocal group. They were launched by boy band producer Lou Pearlman, and have been together since 1993. They have 14 Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide, making them one of the biggest selling artists of all time, and best selling boy band/vocal group. When they returned to the pop scene in 2005, their sound had changed drastically. After the 2005-2006 tour, original member Kevin Richardson left the group on June 23, 2006, to start a family, but the four-piece refused to rule out a possible return for the singer. The now four-member group consists of Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and A. J. McLean.

The venue was crowded yet it wasn’t sold out. Die hard fans were camping in front of the venue long before doors opened. The audience’s age was still quite young, I had expected a little older audience. There was no opening act but the time between doors open and Backstreet Boys entering the stage was filled by a DJ. As the lights in the audience room went off and spots came on the stage they were all screaming like little kids. The four guys jumped through the screen were a intro trailer was shown. Their first song was “Backstreet’s Back”. Everybody sang along and was screaming as AJ, Howie, Brian and Nick were dancing all over the stage. Accompanied by four dancers they performed their choreographies and sang a nice mix of all great songs they had throughout their career. Backstreet Boys changed their outfits several times. During them changing their outfits there were trailers were each member was part of a big movie. Like for example AJ was playing in Fight Club in that trailer, Nick was part of Matrix and so on. For one song they brought roses they gave to the audience, each Backstreet Boy one. The fans all had little signs saying “Thank You” on it which they held up throughout another song. The audience sang along loudly, danced around a lot and cheered even more. The Backstreet Boys highly appreciated it. They also talked quite a lot throughout the show which lasted for a little over 90 minutes. The light was great and the entire show was nice to watch. As I said, different than what I usually see but still nice.
