Intuition – Stronger

Release date: 21-09-2007, Label: Infacted recordings
By: Nina Mende

Intuition is the duo of vocalist Garrett Miles and programmer Ken Porter. Their
singles, “Two”, “Staring Off At Nothing” and albums, Further
and Overworked and Underplayed (2006) were released on A Different Drum Records
in the U.S. The latter, re-titled Stronger for the European market via Infacted
Recordings. Hailing from sunny Phoenix, Arizona, Intuition has taken the music
world by storm with their infectious and unforgettable sound. Fusing together
elements of techno-pop, R&B and traditional rock with an electronic backbone,
Garrett’s smooth and soulful voice gives the synthetic wizardry a warm richness
and unique trademark rarely found in today’s commercial music world.

Following the demise of the popular synth act, Intact, in the summer of 2001,
Germany raised Ken Porter set out to form a new band with a new vocalist. Ken
wanted someone whom shared his vision, focus, and desire to produce music which
would cross genre boundaries and appeal to a mainstream audience. After a chance
meeting with Garrett, who had been gigging with local Phoenix headliners, World
Conspiracy, in mid 2001, the two quickly hit it off and decided to follow their
dream together. The chemistry between the two was evident from the start. Garrett
brought over several demo versions of songs he was working on and allowed Ken
to inject his magic in to them. The rest, as the old cliché says, is
  history.

Shortly thereafter, Garrett and Ken started to write and record new songs together
at their respective studios. Almost immediately, they began to appreciate each
others talents and a mutual respect grew from their partnership. Garrett has
an uncanny knack for writing catchy, hook-filled songs of love, eternal optimism,
and hope. His diverse vocal range and ability to hit highs and lows with ease
rivals many of today’s success stories. A design engineer by trade, Ken delivers
his deft programming abilities to create a cohesive blueprint of the unique
Intuition sound. Using their talents, Intuition completed remixes for the popular
bands De/Vision, Camouflage, Iris and others within the electro-pop genre. They
also licensed the dance pop infused track “Beside You” to Konami for
the X-Box game Dance, Dance Revolution, as well as their song “Words Don’t
Mean A Thing” to the movie Turn Around due out in September of 2007.

Intuition has received worldwide positive feedback and praise for past efforts.
The 2007 special edition release of Stronger, which includes several previously
unreleased remixes, on Infacted Recordings will undoubtedly secure their popularity.
Following a short Germany tour in the fall with De/Vision, the duo will head
back to the studio to commence with work on their third LP due for release in
2008. But let me tell you about their latest album “Stronger” until
the new stuff will be pressed on CD some time next year:

The album is mostly smooth, slow and somehow melancholic. The soft lyrics float
along with the synthesized and dreamy melodies. The album sounds a little bit
Christian because of the lyrics and the sound of it, which is not a bad thing
but more a compliment. The songs sound complete and give you a feeling of being
fulfilled, as if you don’t have to worry about anything.

“I Scream” sticks out somehow, maybe just because I remember that
they played this song live, but maybe there’s something about that song,
the same is with “Staring off at nothing”.
“Beside you” reminds me of Basshunter, somehow… “Remember
me” would be a perfect radio song, it has a touch of a Spanish sound. Really
  nice.

“I Scream (Spampoet remix)” is not much different from the original
one, only the guitar seems to be almost completely replaced by piano, electronic
beats and sounds, at least the guitar is more in the background. “Take
me away (Kregg Barentine mix)” is also with more piano and has more of
the orchestra samples in it. “Tomorrow (Junk Circuit mix)” seems to
be less electronic than the original. “Staring off at nothing (Beatfreq
mix)” is, as the name already says, with more and different kinds of beats
and sped up a little. All in all do the remixes not differ too much from the
originals, “Staring off at nothing (Beatfreq mix)” differs the most.
