The New York Dolls are an American rock band, formed in New York City in 1971. In 2004 the band reformed with three of their original members, two of whom, David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain, continue on today and have released two records of new material. The original bassist, Arthur Kane died shortly after their first reunion concert. The band’s protopunk sound prefigured much of what was to come in the punk rock era; their visual style influenced the look of many new wave and 1980s-era glam metal groups, and they began the local New York scene that later spawned the Ramones, Blondie, Television, and Talking Heads. They have four albums released by now, the newest being called \u201cCause I Sez So\u201d.<\/p>\n

You can tell that this band has been around for a while already. The sound is fully developed but still contains main elements from the beginning stages. \u201cMaking Rain\u201d reminded me of Rolling Stones. The whole album takes you back to the 70s and 80s, but also has an anchor to here and now, so you don\u2019t drift off completely to the memories of back then. The songs have some major country elements in them. The band is stable and always has been, this transfers to the music as well. On the ground and stable is the sound and not in some sort of dream land. The album is great for a night in a bar with your best friends, just hanging and chatting about everything. In the booklet you can find all lyrics as well as pictures of each member. The layout is very nice and fitting to the music. This album is one that shouldn\u2019t be missing in your collection.<\/p>\n\n\n
