The
sound there is not the best, but better for theater than concerts.
But that didn’t stop Vanity Beach, Sleazy Dream and Private Line from playing
there.

Vanity Beach is onsisting of childhood friends J (vocals), Bones (bass) Marty
Vain (lead guitar), Juno Forth (synthesizers) and newly recruited drummer MT
was formed in early 2002 after the demise of Juno’s and J’s former band Cum.
A reputation of being a killer live act has been established by playing everything
from small club shows to major venues, from opening up for bands like Swedish
pop act; Shout Out Louds to playing Scandinavia’s biggest metal festival, the
Tuska Festival. The critically acclaimed debut CD; ‘Nights Of The New’ was released
independently by the band back in April, 2003 and the sales exceeded all expectations.
The first printing of the CD sold out only within a couple of weeks of it’s
release! ‘Nights Of The New’ featured such fan favorites as ‘Fight Through The
Night’, ‘Girls On TV’ and a collaboration with Canada’s The Birthday Massacre;
‘The Knight Murders’. An extended version of the album was released in Australia
on October 17th, 2005 through Electricult Records/MGM.

They were up first and started at about 10pm. Their music is quite uncommon
for Finnland, but quite well known and appreciated in the rest of the world.
Their sound and performance reminds of Big Boy, The Birthday Massacre and other
industrial rock bands. The performance was way too short, it lasted only half
an hour, but the girls and guys in the front row still enjoyed it, sang along
and screamed as much as they could. The energetic performance of the band was
impressive and made me wanting to see them again, maybe longer.

After them Sleazy Dream came up on stage.
Sleazy Dream are four guys from Helsinki who are seducing you with their ragged
riffs and haunting vocals and melodies that will make you want more.
Their 2003 debut song “Backslide” was featured on “Hollywood
Hairspray vol. 3” (Perris Records), featuring other bands such as Gemini
5, Machine Gun, Kelly and CrashDiet. After a few years of intensive gigging
around Finland, at the end of 2005, they came up with a succesful self-produced
and self-titled EP. The record got some airplay at local radio stations and
soon they found themselves warming up Finnish rockers such as Five Fifteen and
Bloodpit.

Sleazy Dream remind a little bit of Guns’n’Roses and Jo (the singer) has a
gorgeous voice. Gloria wasn’t much fuller by that time, but still everybody
cheered for the band and enjoyed the show. After about 40 minutes they were
already done as well.

So now it was time for the last band: Private Line.

Private Line was originally formed in the mid-90s by Sammy, guitar-player Jari
and some of their school mates. Private Line won a band competition and used
the prize money to record and release their first EP in 1998. The material on
Smooth Motions combined hard-rock influences and fierce rhythms. The band started touring and went through some line up-changes. The new line-up including Sammy, Eliaz, Jari, Spit and Illy recorded a 5-song promo-CD which got quite nice response, especially from outside of Finland. In the beginning of 2002 Sammy bumped into Jack (ex- Palmcut) while exploring the nightlife of Helsinki and they decided to join their forces and breathe new life into Private Line. The band started intense rehearsing period and went on to record new kick-ass material. In December 2002 Private Line released a new Mini-CD Six Songs Of Hellcity Trendkill (released by Bad Habits/ Krklund Records). The Mini-CD got rave reviews from the Finnish rock media and also many international print- and webzines were enthusiastic about these Finnish newcomers. The band did a 40-show tour in Finland and created a fanatic fanbase. Private Lines loud as a mix of 80`s sleaze and early 90`s alternative punk was now starting to make bigger and bigger waves.

Private Line is a band that just makes you jump doesn’t matter how tired or
wasted you are. A powerful performance with even more powerful songs. The crowd,
which still hadn’t grown much and wouldn’t anymore, was dancing and cheering
so that you thought Gloria was full. After an hour and an encore of three songs
all was over. What a pity because Private Line is one of my favorite Liveacts.

Here is what they played, so go to myspace and check out their music:
Evel Knievel Factor
Superstar IQ
Cheerleader & Dopedealers
Goods of rewind
Already Dead
Sound Advice
The SINdicate
Uniform
Prozac Nation
1-800-out-of-nowhere
Alive
Broken Promised Land
Billion Star Hotel

Supports: Sleazy dream, Vanity Beach; Venue: Gloria Helsinki (Finland) By: Nina Mende Gloria is a venue that looks like a town theater with balcony and a stage.
