For the five years of GH\u00d8STKID<\/strong>\u2019s existence, the third album Follow The White Rabbit<\/em><\/strong> stands as a sign of high productivity. This time, it\u2019s a direct nod to the ageless Alice in Wonderland and a long journey to the self.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Because this material refuses to be easily boxed into a single genre, I find myself using the \u201ctemporary contemporary\u201d label. At first glance, these 11 tracks promise a helluva box of bold experiments. But once you crack it open, you are left with a secondary, slow-tempo, and depressive industrial art, heavily covered in the patina of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It all starts with the delirium speech of \u201cThe End<\/em>\u201d, pushing its clock-ticking texture into \u201cIvory\u201d<\/em> before transforming into ‘I destroyed you’<\/em>. The only way to find a real gem is to dig your own path halfway down that Rabbit\u2019s hole into \u201cPurple Snakes<\/em>\u201d – the only place where the energy truly hits. From there, \u201cNeon\u201d<\/em> (featuring Maz Univerze) drags you into a cinematic, melancholic slow-motion, trapping you in a beautiful lie where the clock keeps ticking toward a missing mars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This despair only deepens in \u201cUnconditionally<\/em>\u201d, which starts as a nostalgic, alternative noughties throwback, then morphs into proto-metalcore with an unsynchronized system of falling and chaotic breakdowns. Yet, it completely lacks that swift, blazing meteoric drive to ignite the track. After that peak, the record suffers a heavy loss of energy, turning completely calm, where only the \u201cLovely<\/em>\u201d path remains to help you finally see the \u201cWhite Rainbow<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seriously, what promised to be a treasure chest of experiments ends up fading out as a beautifully secondary, melancholic sadness. But have your own madventure, tick-tock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
