Humidity, noise, combat boots, bullet belts, squats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These words are enough to describe the music of the legendary Totalit\u00e4r, who, along with bands like Mob47, Anticimex, and others, defined the sound of Swedish d-beat punk\u2014a scene that would go on to be one of Discharge\u2019s finest children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Totalit\u00e4r (meaning \u201ctotalitarian\u201d) was formed 42 years ago in Hudiksvall, Sweden\u2014a city on the country\u2019s central-eastern coast\u2014and went on to make history in the locally known K\u00e4ngpunk scene (K\u00e4ng means \u201cboot\u201d). Although not very active on the live circuit\u2014functioning primarily as a studio band\u2014these legends released five EPs and one split before finally being persuaded to release their first full-length album, \u201cSin egen motst\u00e5ndare,\u201d in 1984 via Finn Records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To cut a long story short, after several more EPs and splits (including one with the great Tragedy), we arrive at the present, when these Swedish troublemakers are back with their fourth full-length album, which, as you\u2019d expect (not), bears their name.

They\u2019ve been baking music for 40 years and continue to deliver their signature well-baked bread, without hesitation, without gimmicks, and without frills. A production straight out of the early \u201990s, brimming with intensity, anger, and anti-conformism, and sounding as if it were recorded in some abandoned space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While others try to sound contemporary\u2014if only technologically\u2014 Totalit\u00e4r remain steadfast in their nostalgic, underproduced ethos, which tells you that if the music radiates passion and your message is serious, it doesn\u2019t matter if the window is spotless or if pigeons have shat on it. Those who need to hear it will get the message! After all, the band\u2019s history has shown that they don\u2019t try to break into the mainstream and that they don\u2019t follow the well-trodden path of marketing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because of this philosophy, even though their significance in dbeat\/crust punk culture is immense, many of you will be encountering their music for the first time by reading this. Although it would seem strange to me if you\u2019d read this far\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Swedish band Totalit\u00e4r is breaking their silence once again and attacking society\u2019s ills, as they\u2019ve always done despite the gaps in their career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now that Skitsytem have also hit the road, I hope they\u2019ll find the motivation to play a few shows and come see us here in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
