Don\u2019t be afraid, it just wants to smell you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unlike its modern age descendants, the megalodon posing on the artwork has been extinct for millions of years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The massive aquatic predator on the cover-crushing a ship and striking fear even into the beast from Jules Verne\u2019s 20,000 leagues under the sea, is the inspiration behind the new album by the Canadian band Eaten by Sharks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
The combinan of technicality and melody within the death metal genre, which brings to mind a marriage between Gojira and Black Dahlia Murder, leads to deathcore outbursts that offer low-tempo moments perfect for slam dancing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The vocals alternate between raspy and slightly guttural, offering the variety I personally need to keep from getting bored too quickly. Although this is only their second full-length album in a decade, following a long hiatus after their debut EP the Canadians have made a name for themselves in the local underground scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Listening to this album, I imagine that the bond between the members is what has set them apart, but ultimately, The Undertow of Hate<\/em> isn\u2019t enough to propel them much higher in the death metal rankings at least not in my eyes.
Despite the beautiful groove, the unsettling calm of the slow tempos, the virtuosic solos, and the blast beat outbursts, Eaten by Sharks\u2019 style and overall sound can easily get lost in the crowd among the thousands of similar releases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In conclusion, although I had a lot of fun listening to the album, it doesn\u2019t grab me enough to remember it tomorrow, and the mostly flat production doesn\u2019t help much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like sharks and all the terrible action movies that feature them, but having one on the cover isn\u2019t enough to make me love the album any more.Maybe next time it\u2019ll be a little scarier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
